Opsview Monitor 6.0 Released: 29 November 2018

The Opsview Monitor 6.0 release provides new levels of scalability and performance together with multiple enhancements to our user interface, improved user experience with a more modern look and feel. Opsview Monitor 6.0 meets the new challenges of cloud-scale computing while retaining 100% compatibility with the Nagios® plugins, host template customizations and service desk integrations that you value so much. We have built a completely new architecture,  leveraging modern, highly performant technologies to dramatically improve speed, performance and scalability.

Architectural Changes

Opsview Monitor 6.0 no longer uses Nagios! First released in 1999, Nagios(reg) struggles to keep pace with the rapid evolution of modern IT operations. Opsview Monitor 6.0 is built to address the enterprise challenges of virtualization, the cloud and containerization.

Opsview Monitor 6.0 is the result of intensive R&D to ensure Opsview Monitor meets the new challenges of cloud-scale computing while retaining 100% compatibility with the Nagios plugins, host template customizations and service desks integrations that you value so much. We have built a completely new backend architecture leveraging new, highly performant technologies to dramatically improve speed, performance and scalability.

User Interface Performance

Many areas in the user interface are now responding in a more timely manner and/or benefit from a better user experience. This improvement will be especially visible for Enterprise customers who gather and need to display a large amount of data.

User Experience Improvements

Installation improvements

Support for Oracle Linux

Oracle® distributes Oracle Linux which is a binary clone of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) repackaged by Oracle under Red Hat terms and conditions, and covered by open source software licences.

Opsview Monitor 6.0 now officially supports Oracle Linux 7 as an additional platform. For the complete list of supported platforms, click here.

Robust Installation

Opsview Monitor 6.0 provides a more robust installation experience and more secured environment.

Support for TLS 1.2

TLS 1.2 is now the default encryption protocol for all inter-process communication for Opsview Monitor 6.0. Upgrades to Opsview Agents are likely to be required if you have been relying on Opsview Agents from versions of Opsview Monitor lower than 5.4.2. Windows Agentless Monitoring

Using the Microsoft Remote PowerShell capabilities of a Microsoft Windows host, Opsview Monitor 6.0 has now increased monitoring capabilities for Microsoft® Windows® applications. In addition to the Microsoft Windows Base Opspack which focuses on the basic host attributes, the new Opsview Monitor 6.0 provides additional Opspacks that will automatically monitor the following list of Microsoft applications without the need to install any extra agent software:

  • Application - Microsoft Active Directory Agentless
  • Application - Microsoft Hyper-V Agentless
  • OS - Windows Advanced Agentless
  • OS - Windows WMI - Base Agentless
  • OS - Windows WMI - DNS Agentless
  • OS - Windows WMI - Exchange Agentless
  • OS - Windows WMI - IIS Server Agentless
  • OS - Windows WMI - Terminal Agentless

In addition the following Opspacks are released as Beta and should only be used after referring to the Known Issues section before using:

  • Application - Microsoft DNS Agentless (Beta)
  • Application - Microsoft IIS Agentless (Beta)
  • Application - Microsoft Hyper-V Server Agentless (Beta)
  • Application - Microsoft Message Queue Agentless (Beta)

Defect Fixing

This release makes the core functionality of Opsview Monitor more efficient and addresses a number of highly visible defects.

This release now supports the latest versions of a number of third-party libraries improving the overall application’s security and performance. In addition, support for SSL Wildcard certificates in Linux and Windows agents with certification depth to the third level has been added.
