SMART

To run the SMART Service Check + plugin, you first need to edit the /etc/sudoers file and add this line at the bottom (on the monitored host):

nagios ALL=NOPASSWD:/usr/sbin/smartctl

If you do not complete this step, the plugin will fail with this error:

$ check_nrpe -H '192.168.0.14' -c check_smart -a /dev/sda -t 60
RETURN CODE: 3 (UNKNOWN)
OUTPUT:
 SMART UNKNOWN - Smart output parse error, no param start tag found, check executed command
 sudo /usr/sbin/smartctl -A /dev/sda

After configuring /etc/sudoers, you will need to configure the new Service Check. As of Opsview Monitor 4.6.3, the ability to monitor SMART statistics is included in the 'OS - Unix Base' template. Simply add the template (which also includes load average, etc.) and configure the Variables, one Variable per disk.
