Opspacks

Learn what Opspacks are and how to create them for Opsview Monitor

Creating an Opspack

On a working Opsview system, create the configuration you want to be part of the Opspack, which must include at least one Host Template. Configuration that can be part of an Opspack are:

  • Plugins
  • Hashtags
  • Service Groups
  • Variables
  • Service Checks
  • Host Templates

Then run:

/usr/local/nagios/bin/create_opspack --username=admin --password=initial '{hosttemplate}'

This will add, in the current directory, a subdirectory named after host template name with:

  • a sample info file (if one doesn't already exist)
  • a plugins directory, with all referenced plugins (but any plugins shipped with Opsview will be removed)
  • config.json - the Host Templates configuration with referenced Service Checks and plugins
  • a Makefile

Edit the info file as appropriate. If the plugin needs any extra files (for example, its own config files), create an additional directory called 'plugin.d' and place them there. The plugin should expect to find these files in /usr/local/nagios/libexec/plugins.d/<Opspack name>/. Run make mpack to create a tarball which is used for installing into Opsview. Run make clean to remove temporary files.
Ideally these files would be kept under a version control system such as Subversion or Git.

File: info

There are four attributes:

  • NAME: a name that will uniquely identify you as a 'publisher' of an Opspack, typically based on your domain name, e.g. com.opsview.opspacks.alfresco
  • VERSION: the version number of this Opspack
  • ALIAS: the descriptive name for the Opspack
  • DEPENDENCIES: not implemented yet
  • OPSVIEW_MIN_VERSION: Minimum version of Opsview Monitor required for this Opspack to install and work correctly
