located within ‘Monitoring > My Dashboards’, which is the location within
Opsview Monitor where you can go to create your own custom views. These views are based on
various elements of the Opsview Monitor software such as Events, Hashtags, Host
Groups, Graph Center and more.
Dashboards provide a
great way to take various elements of Opsview Monitor, fine-tune them (i.e.
only show me events relating to ‘#customera’), and then display them on large
TV’s in the NOC or throughout the office. You can choose to have a Dashboard
per data center, office, customer, etc which can act as the overall health
indicator for how they are each performing.
These custom views
are created using Dashlets, which are
customisable, resizable analytics views based on the larger sections within
Opsview Monitor. For example, the ‘Events Viewer’ section has two Dashlets that
can be added to a Dashboard, along with graphs (Graph Center), Hashtags and
The ‘My Dashboards’ section contains 19 different Dashlets by default,
with a further seven Dashlets available for Users who have a Network Analyzer
subscription. These Dashlets can be ‘dragged’ onto Dashboards and configured to
display the relevant data using the specified options.
There are are five main sections within the ‘My Dashboards’ section:
This drawer is loaded from the left-hand side by clicking on the arrow.
The Dashlets within the drawers ‘Business’, ‘Technical’ and ‘Network
Analyzer’ can be dragged using the mouse from the drawers onto a Dashboard.
The actual ‘Dashboard’; this is where you drag the Dashlets ‘to’. Note: Dashlets can be resized vertically.
Dashboard tabs allow you to change between one or more dashboards
quickly and easily. To rename a Dashboard, simply ‘double-click’ on a Dashboard
Pressing this button will load the ‘New Dashboard layout’ configuration window (see below),
which allows you to either choose a layout for your new Dashboard or add a
Dashboard that another User has chosen to share with you.
New Dashboard layout
This screen is loaded when the ‘Add New’ button is pressed (see above). To add a new
Dashboard ready to be configured with Dashlets, simply select the desired
layout via the radio buttons and click ‘Create’ or add a Dashboard that another User has chosen to share with you.
Each Dashlet has a ‘settings gear cog’ icon; when clicked this icon will
load a configuration modal window which allows for the customisation and
configuration of the Dashlet in question. In the example below, we have clicked
on the settings button for a newly-added Note Pad Dashlet:
To rename a Dashlet, simply double-click the current name in the top bar within the window
Located within the Dashlets drawer (loaded from the left of the screen),
the Dashboard drawer contains options allowing you to automatically cycle
through the dashboards created on a pre-determined basis (10 seconds, 30
seconds or 60 seconds).
You can also choose to ‘Share my Dashboard’ with other Users. When
clicked, this button loads a new modal window as below:
To share a Dashboard simply check it using the left-hand check boxes, then
click on the ‘Select Roles’ text within the ‘Available to Role’ column. This will load a modal window as shown below:
Sharing the Dashboard in question with the Role ‘Administrator’, for
example, will allow any User who is a member of that Role to add your Dashboard
in a read-only fashion (they cannot amend it or delete Dashlets, etc).
Once shared, you can choose to copy the full hyperlink to the specific
dashboard via the icons in the ‘Action’ column:
