To add a new Host
Group simply click on the contextual menu of the Host Group to which you wish to add the
new Host Group. For example, If you wanted to add a new Host Group to ‘Opsview
Servers’ you would click on the contextual menu against ‘Opsview Servers’ and
select ‘Add child’.
Note: As mentioned
earlier, a Host Group can only contain Hosts OR
Host Groups. If you attempt to add a Host Group to a Host Group already
containing Hosts Opsview will display an error similar to below:
With the scenario
outlined in 3.1, we have a single Host
Group called ‘Opsview Servers’ which contains a Host; namely ‘opsview’. To add
a new Host Group called ‘UK’ to the ‘Opsview Servers’ Host Group you will first
need to add the new Host Group at the same ‘level’ as the ‘Opsview Servers’,
move the ‘opsview’ Host into the new Host Group, then move the new group into the ‘Opsview Servers’ group, as shown below:
Click on menu for
‘Opsview’ (root note) and click ‘Add child’
Name the Host Group and
Select the ‘opsview’ Host
and click ‘Move to..’ in the top right area of the window.
Select the newly created
‘UK’ Host Group and Submit.
Note: You should see this
message once the Host is successfully moved.
Click the contextual menu against the
new ‘UK’ Host Group and select ‘Move this Host Group to..’
Select the ‘Opsview
Servers’ Host Group and click Submit.

Note: You can move one or more Hosts between Host Groups by holding
down the ‘ALT’ or ‘SHIFT’ key and selecting the Hosts.
